Measuring eggs

An egg's size and its cooking method both change the log. The default egg here is large, and a smaller or bigger egg shifts the weight, so name the size when you know it. The raw and hard-boiled records are the egg without its shell, since USDA lists the shell as refuse, so weigh the egg after peeling or cracking it. Per hundred grams, raw is 143 kcal, hard-boiled 155, poached 143, scrambled 149 and fried 196. The fried and scrambled record names do not say which fat or milk was used, so butter or oil added beyond what each record already includes is not covered. Egg whites are a separate food from a whole egg.

Common questions

How many calories in an egg?

It depends on the method. A large egg is 63 kcal raw at 44 g, 78 kcal hard-boiled at 50 g and 90 kcal fried at 46 g. USDA's large-egg weight is not the same in every record.

How many calories in a hard-boiled egg?

A large hard-boiled egg is 78 kcal at 50 g, without the shell. Hard-boiled egg is 155 kcal per hundred grams, so scale to the grams you have.

How many calories in an egg white?

The raw egg white record is 52 kcal per hundred grams. One large egg white weighs 33 g and has 17 kcal. Egg white is a separate record from the whole egg.
